Build Your Child’s Imagination with Pretend Play
Imaginative play is an important part of child development as it leads to the overall growth of the child. In our modern technological society, a child’s imagination is often restricted with fast-moving pictures that appear on a TV or vibrantly colored 3-D computer games. Most of the parents focus on making their toddlers ready for the school by stressing on learning alphabets and numbers. On the other hand, they forget how important it is to cultivate their child’s imagination. A number of psychosomatic studies states that pretend play prepare the children to face the real world as during the play children learn many important life skills like sharing responsibility, taking turns, compassion and many others.
You can come up with many imaginative plays like building a house/camping tent, driving a car, visiting a doctor’s house, playing in a park etc. With each play, your child will come to know of the many things used in these places and the type of people they would meet. So, the next time when you take your child to any of these places, he/she would cooperate with you and also describe everything elegantly which will make you proud before strangers. For instance, if you play the game of shopping, you can tell the child to imagine picking things and placing them in the basket. Then, you can ask the child to take them to the counter and pay for the bill. This way the child would understand all the activities involved in shopping. So, the next time when you take your child to a store, he/she will readily perform the activities without waiting for your instructions.
