Roof Cleaning Can Save You Thousands

Home and Garden May 27th, 2008

I own a mobile pressure washing and low pressure roof cleaning company. Last summer I sent a few mailers to a local bank that had black roof algae on their shingle roof. One flyer was quite educational informing them what the streaks were and how they could be cleaned to restore the roof’s appearance.

After a few mailings I walk into the bank and meet with the manager. Again I explained to him that the streaks were roof algae and that cleaning shingle stains was safe and recommended by the shingle manufacturers.

He seemed please that I informed him of the problem and about cleaning black shingle stains. He said he would get the word up to corporate and get back with me. Like happens so many times I never heard anything back from them.

Unfortunately, later that fall I saw a roofing crew there actually overlaying the roof algae infected shingles with new ones. Those shingles were still in great shape and only needed cleaned, and to image what the cost of that replacement was compared to a simple cleaning makes me sick. Had they only listened to me and even researched it for themselves, they could have saved thousands of dollars.
