Lamp shades for floor lamps

Home and Garden October 30th, 2007

Choosing a lamp shade to go along with your floor lamps can be fun and will give your lamp added style. Of course picking one that fits properly and looks good on the lamp and in the space provided can not be forgotten either.

For example, if you own vintage floor lamps then searching out antique stores and even thrift stores for those hard to find shades and one of a kind looks would definitely be worth it. These stores will have many options that a current store may not offer. However, traditional stores will be the one to pick when looking for shades for your more standard desk indoor outdoor floor lamps. Mainly because if you will be using the lamps outdoors than making sure you’re picking a weather resistant shade is a must.

Never forget to measure and check how close the lamp is to a wall or other furniture. Leaving yourself enough room for the shade to fit comfortably and not be bent or smashed into a wall.  On the other hand a shade that is too small will look silly atop a large lamp or in a big space. What a waste to find the perfect shade and then realize that it’s too big or small for the space provided. Take pictures even to bring with you, that way you know your getting what you need and that the shade will look wonderful on top of the lamp.
